OMG, so much has happened over the past month, I’ve been in a bit of a whirlwind! First off, my book won a Silver medal for Ethnic Cooking by the Living Now Book Awards folks. Then Jorge and I headed off to Finland to play a really hoppin’ rockabilly cruise for some of the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet. Next, we got home and started pre-production on our next CD that we’re about to head into the studio and record. I’ve been writing and re-writing, and we’ve been rehearsing up a storm- I just love playing with these guys- and I have all the best hopes for this CD!
Which, by the way, is going to be a children’s rockabilly roots record- made with mature musicianship and instrumentation, and with kiddo-focused lyrics with songs about homework, naptime, bullies, best friends, and so on. I’m having the best time working on this! Plus, it’s really the first full album I’ve written since my accident. So, while it’s a bit harder for me to access the exact words I want for each song, it’s another great challenge that I am stepping up to the plate to meet full on, and that’s half the fun 🙂
Then this past Friday, I taught my first Central Market cooking class here in Austin. There were only about 25 people there, but the class went really well, everyone had a great time, and I met some folks I would love to just hang out with and share a meal or two (or dozen!).
And last of all, this IS my favorite time of year to cook. I love the ingredients that come into season, and hanging out in the kitchen just makes sense in the cooler Autumn months. So I’ve been cooking up everything I can dream up, writing a lot of Ruby’s Kitchen Radio Show recipes and episodes, and feeding folks- my favorite thing to do other than sing.
And actually, I’m off to the market now to pick up some short ribs and root vegetables so I can make up a batch of something good for dinner. Until the next time, keep it tasty!
